Chatto / Chato - Chiricahua Apache
Chato (1854-1934) fue un apache chiricahua, nacido en 1854. Se hizo guerrero y llevó a cabo varias incursiones contra habitantes en Arizona y Nuevo México. Finalmente se rindió al general George Crook y sirvió bajo su mandato como explorador. Esto incluyó la expedición a la Sierra Madre en 1883. En 1886 Chato encabezó una delegación de paz a Washington, donde fue galardonado con una medalla de plata por el presidente Chester Arthur. A su regreso sirvió como explorador en Fort Still. En 1913 Chato y su familia se fueron a vivir a la Reserva Mescalero de Nuevo México. Chato murió tras un accidente automovilístico el 13 de agosto de 1934. Credito: www.spartacus.schoolnet.co.uk
