En la primera parte de 1966, Texas Western College (ahora UTEP) adquirido a un nuevo personaje famoso llamado Henry. Un burro, Henry fue elegido como la mascota de Texas Western College. Ron McCluskey, el presidente de la Asociación de Estudiantes descrito a Henry, como uno de los primeros símbolos de la Escuela Estatal de Minas era un sello de burro. La imagen fue adaptada por la Escuela de Minas para resaltar las raíces mineras de la escuela que se pueden encontrar en primeras ediciones de las publicaciones de la escuela.
