Horned Toad, Side View

Lagartos hornados son genero de lagartos que son un tipo gernero de la familia Phrynosomatidae. El Lagarto Hornado es popularmente llamdo un "sapo cornudo", "sapo cachondo", o "rana de cuernos", sin embargo, no es ni un sapo o una rana. Los nombres popular vienen del cuerpo redondo y el morro romo, que hace parece un sapo o una rana. Las espinas en la espalda y lado estan hechas de escamos modificadas, mientras que los quernos en la cabeza son verdaderos cuernos. De 15 especies de lagartos cornudos en America del Norte, ocho son nativas a los Estados Unidos. Los mas grandes de cuerpos y mas ampliamente distribuidos de los Estados Unidos son los lagartos cornuds de Texas. Lagartos Cornudos son morfológicamente similar a los Diablillo espinoso australianos, pero son alejados. Tambien tienen similtudes como ser sentar y esperar depredadores y depradando sobre las hormigas, por lo que estas especies son un gran ejemplo de evolución convergente.
