Mason y Hamiln Órgano, ca. 1870. Fonógrafo de Edison, 1915-1919. Victor Maquina Palante, 1908-1920. Antes del desarrollo del fonógrafo de Edison a fines de la década de 1870, la música no podía reproducirse a voluntad. Toda la música era en vivo, grabada en papel de notación musical, o producida en un formato repetitivo por una caja de música.
