James Harden-Hickey

Durante un viaje al Tibet antes de su matrimonio, su equipo hizo una parada en el Atlántico Sur. Harden-Hickey se percató de que la pequeña isla de Trinidad en el Océano Atlántico Sur nunca había sido reclamada legalmente por ningún país lo cual la hacia "res nullius" (sin dueño). Reivindicó la isla y se proclamó Jaime I, Príncipe de Trinidad. En 1893 logró establecer esta isla como un estado independiente, siendo el, dictador militar de la misma. James Harden-Hickey escribió un libro llamado "La eutanasia: La estética del suicidio", en el que demuestra que el suicidio es una forma de arte de gran alcance y "un privilegio". Él escribió que la vida no era tan importante e incluso no valía la pena vivir, si uno iba a sufrir, y afirmó claramente que "es de mayor importancia vivir bien, que vivir largo tiempo, y que a menudo, vivir bien, es no vivir por largo tiempo." Al final, Indigente y deprimido, vivió y murió a la altura de su ideología, como un firme defensor del suicidio: Jaime I, Príncipe de Trinidad, Barón del Sacro Imperio Romano, tomó una sobredosis de morfina, el 9 de febrero de 1898, en un hotel de El Paso, Texas, cuando no pudo vender su rancho mexicano que adquirió mientras vivía con los Flaglers. Entre sus propiedades, encontraron una nota de suicidio dirigida a su esposa y muchos recuerdos de sus días de gloria, incluyendo su corona hecha a mano.
