El Paso Police Department - 1901 - El Paso, Texas

The El Paso City Police Department - 1901. A few short years after this photo was taken, the El Paso PD would rapidly "modernize", issuing uniforms and other signatures of an urban police force. Unfortunately for many of its officers, the city and region they served was in some ways slower to become fully civilized, and gunfights would remain a common feature of law enforcement into the 1920s and 1930s.
