Old Glory Memorial - El Paso, Texas

A wall will be named after William Haddad, a Navy veteran, who worked to raise money for a World War II memorial, 9511 Gateway North, El Paso, Texas. Haddad created a trust to collect $50,000 for the memorial. The efforts to design and build the memorial were passed on to William Craig in January 2006, shortly before Haddad died. Fred Roberts, who completed the project after Craig¹s death, said the memorial wall was paid for with a state grant. He said it rests on property leased by the El Paso Texas Flags Across America. The dedication ceremony will be on the anniversary of the formal signing of Japan¹s surrender, Sept. 2, 1945. Haddad¹s sister, Silma Haddad, and other relatives of Haddad and Craig will unveil the memorial. http://www.elpasotimes.com/news/ci_13238715?source=rss

!st Flag Monument donated by Kaster and Maxon Funeral Home.

Robert Soltis, Tony Lewis, Don Kendall went to talk to Jimmy Melver, Director to the Northeast YMCA to start to raise funds to put a America Flag up in the Northeast after 911. The group had its 1st meeting at the Northeast YMCA to form an Organization called El Paso Chapter of the National Flag Foundation. The main focus was to start raising funds to put a flag pole by the Northeast El Paso Community College Campus on the corner of Diana Drive and Gateway North. The group of volunteers started having cookout, car shows, talking to service clubs, and special events to raise funds for the flag pole, foundation , lights and to purchase a 40 foot by 80 foot (3,200 square foot) American Flag. It took 2 years to get fill dirt donated by the community and commercial land developers to level the site. Special thanks to Stanley Jobe who donated 49 cubic yards of concrete which holds the 180 foot flag pole. On December 3, 2003 the Flag monument donated by Kaster and Maxon Funeral Home, was dedicated, and thanks to Northeast Rotary Club donating $10,000, VFW 8550 gave a very large donation along with the Community/businesses sponsoring the 13 stripes for $2,000 each, and the 50 stars for $500 each. The names of individual stars and stripes sponsors are listed on the monument along with the 1st El Paso Chapter of the National Flag Foundation Board of Directors, Robert Soltis, Donald L. Kendall, Jimmy K. Melver, James H. Johnson, and El Paso District IV Representative John F. Cook. Thanks to all the numerous veterans and donors who gave donation to help this Flag project. The American Flags flies 24/7 and lighted at night for the Freedom we enjoy everyday. The 5,000 square foot flag, 50 state flags, 6 service flag, and 6 Territorial flags on displayed on all major Holidays. The Old Glory Memorial is for All of El Paso Community and open to the public everyday. Flag store at Old Glory Memorial and donations greatly appreciated.
