Rio Grande between El Paso and Ciudad Juarez

This postcard shows the Rio Grande between El Paso and Ciudad Juarez. It probably dates from the 1900s. The Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo, signed in 1848, ended the Mexican-American War and established the Rio Grande as border. The Treaty meant for the El Paso del Norte region (now El Paso and Ciudad Juarez area) that the settlements on the north bank of the Rio Grande effectively became American, separate from Old El Paso del Norte (now Ciudad Juarez) on the Mexican side. However, traffic and trade between the two cities continued to go back and forth.
