Mary Frances Gwinn (Vance) se graduó de Texas College of Mines en 1937. Fue honrada por TWC en 1957 como Ex-Alumna Sobresaliente, la primera vez que se otorgaba el premio a una mujer. Fue admitida a la barra federal en 1951. Actuó como gerente de campaña de las campañas de su marido para el abogado de la ciudad y el fiscal del condado.
