Metz as a historian and writer did much to preserve the history of El Paso and one of its oldest cemeteries. He died in El Paso Nov of 2020 during the COVID pandemic.

El Paso Times, Nov. 21, 2020 front page headline is "Leon Metz buried in historic Concordia Cemetery."
